THE GODS SPOKE

The umpteen gods know to man
Assembled in panoply most grand
Each having served the higher power
And been confused with life's first flower

There judging the acts of each of humanity
As when humans claim in god's name
To justify the heinous acts of insanity
And shift elsewhere above the blame

A god with hand on forehead
Eyes rolled back lids down
Knows the claim with dread
Leans aside in whisper heard

Known everywhere as truth sublime
"One of yours or one of mine?"
